The history of the Buekorps Museum

Throughout the years a great number of effects and other records from and around the Buekorps movement have regrettably been lost, and already around 1930 the issue of a Buekorps Museum was raised. Unfortunately, the idea did not get any support, and it was not until 1971 – after many big Buekorps had been shut down – that one made things hum.

October 19, 1971 about 30 representatives from both existing and "dead" Buekorps met in Bergen. They agreed working for collecting and registering all Buekorps material and see to it that it was taken care of in adequate forms in a museum.

At another meeting November 24 a working committee on seven men was appointed to continue to work the matter and after five years of effort they succeeded in having Buekorps Museum established in Bergen. April 25, 1977 the Museum was founded.

May 26, 1977 the then mayor opened the Buekorps Museum.
